ServicesRolling Grilles

Rolling Grille Service in Lansford, PA

A grille that hangs up partway or won't lock leaves your opening either wide open or shut to your own crew. We fix curtains, guides, springs and motors on rolling grilles, and we put in new ones. Scope and price factors go in writing before any work begins.

What we do with rolling grilles

A rolling grille is an open mesh curtain of rods and links that coils above an opening. It secures a space but still lets air, light and a view through. You see them on storefronts, pharmacy and service counters, parts cages, and receiving areas inside a warehouse.

We repair grilles that are already up and install new ones where an opening needs security. That covers manual grilles with a crank or push-up lift, and motorized units with an operator. Most problems come down to a few parts: the curtain, the guides, the bottom bar, the spring or the motor.

Before we touch anything, we walk you through what we found and put it in a written quote. You see the parts, the labor and what could change the number. No add-ons show up later.

What the work includes

Curtain and link repair

We straighten or replace bent rods, broken links and spacer tubes. A curtain hit by a pallet jack or cart can often be fixed by swapping sections, not the whole thing.

Guide and bottom bar work

Bent or worn guides make a grille bind and wear out the curtain fast. We realign or replace guides and repair the bottom bar so the grille seats flat and locks.

Spring tension and balance

A grille that is hard to lift or drops fast usually has a spring problem. We adjust or replace springs so a manual grille moves with steady effort and stays where you leave it.

Motor and operator service

We troubleshoot motors, limit switches and controls on powered grilles. If the operator is worn out, we explain whether a repair or a replacement makes more sense.

Locks and new installs

We repair slide bolts, cylinder locks and center locks. For new openings, we measure, help you pick material and operation, and install the grille.

Signs your rolling grille needs work

It drags or jumps in the guides
Scraping, catching or a curtain that rides out of the track points to bent guides or damaged links. Keep forcing it and the damage spreads.
It won't stay up or comes down hard
Weak spring tension makes a grille drift down or slam. That is a safety problem for anyone standing under it.
The lock won't line up
If you have to lift or kick the bottom bar to get the lock to catch, something is out of alignment. The opening may not be as secure as it looks.
Rust on rods and guides
Road salt and slush tracked in through winter eat at steel grilles near the floor. Rust at the bottom of the guides is worth catching before parts seize.
Motor hums but nothing moves
A humming motor, a grille that stops short or a control that only works sometimes usually means an operator or limit switch issue.

How a grille job runs

  1. 1

You call and describe the problem

Tell us where the grille is, how it opens and what it is doing. We set a time to come look at it.

  2. 2

    We inspect the whole grille

We run it up and down, check the curtain, guides, spring, locks and motor, and measure if parts are needed. We show you what we found.

  3. 3

    You get a written quote

It lists the parts, the labor and anything that could change the price, like a spring that only shows wear once the coil is opened. You decide before we start.

  4. 4

We do the work around your hours

We plan the job so the opening is out of service as little as possible. On storefronts and counters, that can mean working before you open or after you close.

  5. 5

    We test it with you

We cycle the grille, check the lock and balance, and clean up. You see it work before we leave.

What sets the cost of a grille job

Some grille calls end with a small adjustment and others with a new grille, so we won't name a figure by phone. Once we've looked at it, the work and the cost drivers go on paper. These are the items that usually count the most.

Opening size
A bigger opening calls for more curtain, stronger springs and longer guides, so parts and labor both go up.
What it's made of
Aluminum, galvanized steel and stainless are priced differently. On a repair, the material already in place also limits which parts we can get.
Hand-operated or powered
Motorized grilles bring an operator, controls and wiring into the job. Converting a manual grille to a motor shows up as a separate line.
Extent of the damage
Swapping a handful of links doesn't take long. A curtain bent from side to side, or guides pulled off the wall, means more parts and more hours.
Reach and scheduling
A grille mounted high, short headroom or the need for a lift adds labor. If the work falls outside your usual hours, we say so before booking.

Rolling grille questions

Should I repair my grille or replace it?
Most grilles can be repaired if the coil and housing are sound. When the curtain is damaged across most of its width or parts for an older model are hard to get, replacement can cost less over time. We tell you which way we'd go and why, and both options can go in the written quote.
Can you add a motor to a manual grille?
Often, yes. It depends on the grille's size, weight and mounting, and whether there is power near the opening. We check those on the visit and list the motor, controls and any electrical needs separately.
Can you work before or after our business hours?
Yes. For storefronts, counters and other openings that need to stay secure during the day, we can schedule around your hours. Any cost tied to that timing is spelled out in writing before we book it.
Do you work on grilles inside a warehouse?
Yes. We service grilles on parts cages, tool cribs, mezzanine openings and interior receiving areas, not just street-facing storefronts. If you also have issues with overhead doors or a dock leveler nearby, we can look at those on the same visit.
How can we make our grille last longer?
Keep the guides clear of debris and salt, and don't force a grille that binds. Having it checked as part of loading dock preventative maintenance catches worn springs and bent guides before they fail.
